A blocked account is a special bank account required by the German government for international students who want to study or stay in Germany. It serves as proof that you have enough finances to cover your living expenses while studying in Germany.

• You must deposit a fixed amount of money (currently around €11,208 to €11,904 for one year) into this account before you apply for your student visa.

• The money is "blocked," meaning you cannot access it all at once. Instead, you can withdraw a limited amount monthly, about €1000, to cover your living costs.

• This account is mandatory for your visa application and shows the German authorities that you can support yourself financially without working illegally.

   

Importantly, no separate bank statement is needed to prove your finances for the visa application, only the confirmation letter from the blocked account provider.
